
Several travelers were stuck in the Lucknow metro today as the new train appeared in the city for use by civilans.
The travelers, including school youngsters, were bound in the metro for over a hour without lights and cooling. An authority said the issue was a technical one connected to a "traction pump" however did not detailed.
A group of authorities from the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) reached on the ground to evacuate the travelers through a emergency exit after the train slowed down between the stations of Mawaiyya and Durgapuri. The line covers eight stations taking all things together.
The metro, which started business operations yesterday, was initiated day before yesterday by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Previous Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav derided the disappointment on twitter, posting, "The Lucknow Metro had been built and was ready for a while now... The union government, via the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), took such a long time to give the No-Objection Certificate (NOC)... despite that, the metro failed on the first day!"
The metro course that has opened today covers 8.5 kms and was built more than two years while Mr Yadav was in control at a cost of around 6,800 crores.
